JATINANGOR.kemahasiswaan.itb.ac.id - In an academic environment, students are not only required to excel in theoretical aspects but also expected to be able to put this knowledge into practice in a practical context relevant to society's needs. The students of SAPPK ITB, class of 2023, have demonstrated their strategic role in community development through the knowledge and skills acquired during their studies, making us all proud of their achievements.
Reinovasi 2024 is a form of realization of science and knowledge carried out by students of the School of Architecture, Planning, and Policy Development (SAPPK) 2023. Reinovasi 2024 focuses on designing, developing, and maintaining public spaces to restore the place's function, foundation, and aesthetics. The 2024 renovation will be carried out on the empty land of the Al-Muslimun Mosque, Jl. Colonel Ahmad Syam, Sayang, District. Jatinangor, Sumedang Regency, West Java.
Apart from increasing awareness and concern for SAPPK 2023 students towards social and environmental issues around them, Reinovasi 2024 is also a forum for developing skills and expanding the relationship network of SAPPK 2023 students. The commitment and dedication of the students to community and environmental development, as demonstrated in the Reinovasi work program, is truly inspiring. "The Reinovasi work program is an important step in forming the character of SAPPK 2023 students who not only excel academically but also have deep concern and commitment to community and environmental development," said Alicia (PWK'23), Project Manager for Reinovasi 2024.
Before building and repairing public spaces, the SAPPK 2023 team first held discussions with local residents to ensure that the development was in accordance with residents' needs. SAPPK 2023 builds two sports facilities: a volleyball court and a table tennis building.
"We worked on these facilities with the help of contractors, and SAPPK 2023 students carried out supervision. For the frame of the table tennis building, we only needed to add walls, while the volleyball court needed casting, so craftsmen assisted with the work," explained Alicia.
Apart from that, SAPPK 2023 students carried out murals in several places, namely the volleyball court, the walls of the table tennis building, and the walls of residents. The community also helped with the painting while working on the mural. The 2023 SAPPK student team also involved Ikopin Residential students providing handprints on residents' murals. It doesn't stop there, to make the area greener, the SAPPK 2023 team added elephant grass and pine tree seeds to beautify the green area.
The handover of the public space was carried out at the Grand Opening event on Sunday (30/06/2024). As a symbol, both parties placed a symbol on a frame which shows a commitment to maintaining public space. The grand opening was a ceremonial agenda between residents and the 2023 SAPPK team to enjoy the volleyball court together. The event was also filled with performances from SAPPK 2023 students, making the atmosphere more festive.
The 2024 Reinovasi involved 78 SAPPK 2023 students, 56 people from the Ikopin Housing community, and four people from ITB. As Project Manager, Alicia hopes that this activity can continue by 2024 SAPPK students.
"I recommend that they realize things that have not been realized this year, such as adding seating so that people can communicate comfortably in this public space," said Alicia.
The 2024 Reinovasi was successful as concrete evidence of the contribution of SAPPK 2023 students in improving the quality of public spaces and empowering the surrounding community. With strong collaboration between students, residents, and the campus, it is hoped that this program can inspire the next generation of students to play an active role in sustainable social and environmental development. The successful collaboration demonstrated in Reinovasi 2024 reflects the potential for future projects to realize positive change in society, leaving us all optimistic about what can be achieved.
