Mapres ITB 2022; Continue to Change Our Self and Benefit Others

BANDUNG, kemahasiswaan.itb.ac.id – Indra Jaya Budiarso is one of the finalists for the ITB 2022 Outstanding Student Selection (Pilmapres),. He is a Material Engineering study program student and a representative of Outstanding Student (Mapres) from the Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (FTMD). Even though he is known as Mapres, he realizes his achievements are closely related to his current change process.

He argues that outstanding students are students who can make changes in themselves and can also have a positive impact on others. Seeing his journey so far in his education, when he was at the elementary school level, Indra had an academic score below the average. However, he continued to make changes when he entered middle and high school. He is getting bolder in participating in various competitions, studying even harder, and sharing his knowledge more broadly. For him, being a student with a grade below the average and then becoming a student with good grades is an actual achievement process.

"Someone who deserves the title of the outstanding student is those who can change for the better in terms of students. Someone who dares to learn and continue to hone their abilities and then use that ability to affect others positively" explained the second child of two siblings.

According to him, all the processes he goes through are the results of his parents' education, who have never stopped encouraging him all this time. His father always encourages him to continue pursuing his education. His mother, who reminds him of God, makes Indra confident and optimistic that all the processes he goes through must continue to become a much better version of himself. Even though it looks simple, he appreciates what his parents have done so far. Thanks to his parent's advice, Indra achieved these achievements.

Achievement, for Indra, both academic and non-academic, is equally important. Wherever a person can develop and make changes in himself, then that is something that should be appreciated. Especially if what you do can have a positive impact on others.

"A simple example, suppose we excel in academics, we can teach students or other students and be a blessing to them. It is the same with non-academic achievements. Let us say we have an innovative work program in a particular organization. With this new program, our organization can broadly impact many people. It is also an achievement. The essence of an achievement is that we change into better people and can positively impact many people," said Indra, who likes to play these games.

In his presentation at the ITB 2022 Pilmapres some time ago, he presented an idea about how to reduce CO2 emissions from Air conditioners (AC) which can cause global warming. Many areas in Indonesia have pretty hot temperatures, and most people use air conditioning in their homes to reduce the effects of the heat. To reduce the negative impact of using this cooler, Indra made an insulator panel. These panels are used in buildings with materials of natural origin and waste. It is intended so that the panels can reduce waste and still support environmental sustainability.

"My goal is to become a researcher and a lecturer because this makes me happy and can impact others and even the world through my knowledge. The effort that I have made to achieve this is to register for the fast-track program for my master's at ITB. I am also trying to do a research internship in Japan for three months in 2023 to open up greater opportunities for me. I hope that will help when I register for my doctorate at the University. of Tsukuba, Japan. I am also in the early stages of working on a review paper with my lecturer on photocatalysts. All the efforts that I have made have been made possible thanks to the help of Mr. Arie Wibowo as my supervisor officer," concluded Indra.
