BANDUNG, kemahasiswaan.itb.ac.id – Students in the first year of college usually require quite a complex adaptation. During this transition period, it is not uncommon for students to experience academic, social, culture shock, or even other problems that can affect their mental health. To that end, the Directorate of Student Affairs ITB, through the Guidance Counseling Institute, held Psychological First Aid (PFA) ITB 2022 offline at the CRCS Building, ITB Ganesha Campus, on Saturday (13/8/2022).
"In this activity, we are all made to be able to hear and realize our depression. Therefore, ITB has provided lecturers and Counseling Guidance for students in dealing with existing problems, "said the Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs (WRAM) ITB, Prof. Dr. Ir. Jaka Sembiring, M.Eng, when giving a speech at PFA ITB 2022.
He said it was necessary to do prevention to maintain the mental health of ITB students. If you look at data from UNICEF, 1 out of 3 Indonesians, especially teenagers and adults, have experienced depression. UNICEF states that one of the causes of psychological problems is technology. So they have to be able to solve this problem. In terms of Guidance and Counseling services at ITB, he admitted that there was an increase in prevention efforts and healthy living. At ITB, students can do counseling with professional psychologists provided either at the East ITB Ganesha Campus Center or ITB Jatinangor Main Campus 2nd floor and ITB Cirebon Main Campus 2nd floor.
"In the PFA activity, I hope students can follow it well, and this can be a provision for all physical and mental lives. We must be careful with the changes in the existing world. Make the handle of the AIR character (Adaptive, Integration, and Humble); hopefully, it can be a handle. Students are encouraged to take advantage of PFA activities so that they can be a provision for later lectures, "explained Jaka.
The 2002 ITB PFA Program contains insights about the first steps that can be taken to help yourself and those around you who are experiencing problems that affect their mentality. New students of the ITB class of 2002 are expected to understand the mental health of themselves and those around them so that new students can manage their mental health while carrying out academic and non-academic activities at the ITB Campus.
