BANDUNG, kemahasiswaan.itb.ac.id - To get the best trainers for the implementation of the Character Development Training (CDT) ITB 2025 next semester, a Micro Teaching simulation was held for CDT trainer candidates on Saturday, (05/31/2025) at ITB Jatinangor campus. This activity was among the series of the School for Trainer Candidates or Sekolah Calon Trainer (SCT) organized by CDT ITB. On the previous day of SCT, trainer candidates were equipped with materials and tips for delivering the material. Now, they are trained to apply the materials they have received and practice to become real trainers.

The Micro Teaching aims to train the trainer candidates in delivering material, managing class dynamics, and building effective communication. They are divided into several classes, then take turns appearing in pairs as trainers and the rest as trainees (CDT participants). The main material presented is about Adaptation, Integrity, and Respectful (AIR) which was previously presented in SCT 1 by Prof. Dr. M. Salman A. N., S.Si., M.Si. He emphasized that the AIR material is important for all ITB students to have, especially to be instilled in new ITB students. Therefore, this simulation is important to be carried out because trainers must be the first to understand the material and know how to deliver it well so that the message can be conveyed effectively.

In this activity, trainer candidates simulated delivery of materials for the later CDT Days. The micro teaching session was divided into several parts, starting from the AIR concept to case study discussions in the form of videos and audios. Furthermore, trainer candidates were also asked to give evaluation and reflection in a dedicated session where they also provided tips on implementing the values ??that had been explained. Several interactive sessions such as questions and answers, ice breaking, as well as simple games were also included to train the flexibility and creativity of trainer candidates when facing trainees. The trainers felt that this activity could provide real experience for future CDT activities.

"There are so many insights gained from today's micro-teaching because it makes me think about what to do in the later CDT ITB 2025." Said one of the prospective trainers.

The AIR values ??consisting of Adaptive, Integrity, and Respectful are the core of the microteaching material for prospective CDT trainers. Adaptive teaches the importance of the ability to adapt to a new environment, especially during the transition to becoming a college student. Integrity is emphasized as consistency between values, words, and actions, while Respectful is understood as an attitude of recognizing one's own capacity and being open to input without feeling more or less than others. These three values ??are expected to be the foundation of students' character in living their academic and social lives.

In addition to AIR, the concept of growth mindset is also introduced, namely the belief that abilities can develop through the process of learning and effort, not determined entirely by innate talent. This value is a complement that supports an adaptive and humble attitude, especially when facing challenges. Understanding of the values ??is reinforced through case study discussions, for example cheating on exams or breaking promises, which test the extent to which trainees are able to apply these values ??in real situations. With this approach, trainees not only understand the theory, but also learn to take the right attitude reflectively and contextually. It is hoped that prospective trainers can understand all the material that will be presented and thus are able to become role models for new students later on.
