BANDUNG, kemahasiswaan.itb.ac.id – Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), through the Student Film League (LFM), in collaboration with Jakarta World Cinema (JWC), held Road to Campus as part of the National Cinema Festival series. The event took place on Saturday (5/31/2025) at the Oktagon Building, ITB Ganesha Campus. With the theme "Drawn to Story: Exploring the Short Animation Format", this activity provided students an opportunity to explore the potential and strategies around developing short animation works.

The event featured an animation director with national creative industry experiences, Daryl Wilson, the CEO of Kumata Animation Studio. In his presentation, he emphasized the importance of animation as a production technique, not just a genre, allowing for a broad and flexible creative approach to this format.

"Animation is a technique that allows stories to be presented across boundaries, be it in education, entertainment, or cultural expression," said Daryl.

Daryl also discussed how to develop story ideas and the creative process that supports short animation. Participants were encouraged to understand the production process, from pre-conception, script development, to distribution strategies relevant to market needs. Daryl also highlighted the crucial role of understanding the target audience and visual exploration in presenting a compelling story with a distinctive visual appeal.

In addition to the presentations, the event included a script clinic, which gave participants the opportunity to discuss their premises and scripts directly with the speaker. Seven scripts previously submitted during the registration phase received direct feedback on strengthening story structure, sharpening characters, and selecting an appropriate visual style. This session provided a space for direct discussion between aspiring creators and practitioners with international track records.

Through this activity, participants not only learned the technical aspects of animation production but also gained comprehensive insight into problem-solution fit in the creative industry. The session concluded with an inspirational message from Daryl, encouraging participants to continue experimenting and not to be afraid of failure in the creative process.
